Safety and Trust
How can I recognize a suspicious job offer?
Be cautious if someone:
- Promises unusually high pay for very little work
- Requests payment before you can begin working
- Demands gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or banking credentials
- Sends you a check and asks you to return part of the money
- Refuses to explain the job clearly
- Uses an email address unrelated to the claimed company
- Requests sensitive personal information before a legitimate hiring process
- Pressures you to act immediately without proper documentation
Should I ever pay someone to receive a job?
Legitimate employers generally do not require applicants to pay them for employment. Do not send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or banking credentials to someone promising you a job.
Does WhoGotWork verify every employer and job?
WhoGotWork may review listings and remove suspicious content, but it cannot guarantee the identity, conduct, accuracy, or legitimacy of every user or opportunity. Applicants should independently research employers and confirm information before accepting work or sharing sensitive details.
How do I report a suspicious listing or user?
Use the WhoGotWork Contact page and provide the job title, employer name, listing link, and an explanation of your concern. Do not include passwords or complete financial-account information.
What should I do if I believe I have been scammed?
Stop communicating with the suspected scammer, preserve messages and transaction records, contact your financial institution if money was involved, and report the incident to the appropriate law-enforcement or consumer-protection agency.
